Sony A7RII
My workhorse camera and the one that accompanies me on almost every holiday, adventure and photography trip. The Sony A7R II packs a seriously impressive 42.4-megapixel full-frame sensor into a relatively compact mirrorless body, producing beautifully detailed images with excellent dynamic range.
Despite being a few years old now, it remains a fantastic camera for landscape and travel photography, giving me plenty of resolution to crop, print and bring out the finer details in a scene. It's a camera I've come to rely on, whether I'm photographing a distant landscape, exploring a new city or simply capturing moments along the way.
Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art
My go-to everyday lens and probably the most versatile piece of glass in my camera bag. The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art offers an incredibly useful focal range, covering everything from wide-angle landscapes and architecture to tighter compositions and details.
The constant F2.8 aperture makes it particularly useful in lower-light situations, while delivering excellent sharpness and image quality across the zoom range. Paired with the Sony A7R II, it makes for a capable combination whether I'm shooting city streets, landscapes, architecture or documenting my travels.
It's not the smallest or lightest lens, but the image quality and flexibility make it well worth carrying.
Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4.0 L USM
My first ever dedicated motorsport lens and one that played a big part in getting me into longer focal length photography. Part of Canon's renowned L-series, the 70-200mm f/4L USM is a beautifully made telephoto zoom, offering excellent sharpness, reliable autofocus and a constant f/4 aperture throughout its zoom range.
The 70-200mm focal length is particularly useful for motorsport, allowing you to get closer to the action from the sidelines, isolate cars against their surroundings and capture detail that would otherwise be out of reach.
Although I've since moved much of my photography over to Sony, this lens remains a reminder of where my interest in photography really began.
Samyang 10mm f/2.8 NCS CS
An ultra-wide-angle lens that has earned its place in my kit through some of my favourite night-sky photography. With its 10mm focal length and relatively fast f/2.8 aperture, it's particularly well suited to astrophotography, allowing me to capture expansive views of the night sky while retaining plenty of detail in the surrounding landscape.
It's been especially useful for photographing the Aurora Borealis, where capturing the scale and movement of the northern lights alongside the landscape is just as important as the spectacle itself. The wide field of view makes it possible to tell a much bigger story in a single frame.
A specialist lens rather than an everyday choice, but one that comes into its own when the skies put on a show.
